We’re about to enter one of my favorite seasons: chilly season!
When the humidity drops and the breeze comes in, it’s time to break out our favorite cold-weather wardrobe pieces.
Leather pants have become a closet staple for me in the colder months of the year, almost at the same level as my favorite pair of jeans.
Some people hear leather and immediately think of moto jackets or goth accessories, but leather can also be really elevated in the right silhouette.
At first styling leather might seem intimidating, but one piece of the puzzle that will help is identifying what shoes to wear with leather pants.
I love sharing styling tips that have worked for me, so I wanted to share some outfit ideas with leather pants and specifically highlight my footwear choices.
Whether you’re styling leather pants for work or for a night out, the shoes you choose (rhymes! lol) can dictate the overall vibe of your outfit.

The best shoes to wear with leather pants
Ankle boots
When the temperatures drop, it’s no surprise that ankle boots become my most-worn shoe. I particularly love wearing my cream ankle boots with leather pants in the winter months.
Think about the toe shape (pointed vs rounded and when in doubt grab a pair with a small heel for some added height.
Pointed toe mules
If you are looking to wear leather pants in a more formal setting like an office or to a party, your choice of footwear can make a big impact on the overall vibe of your outfit.
I love a pointed toe mule with leather pants because it elongates your foot but it’s not as intense as a stiletto heel.
Low-top sneakers
For a girl (or guy!) on the go, sneakers are a no-brainer. When styled with leather, sneakers can give an outfit an instant dose of cool vibes.
Opt for a low-top design to show a bit of ankle and choose colors that either contrast or compliment the color of the leather pants. I’m personally a big fan of black leather pants paired with white sneakers.
Ballet flats
If you’re in need of an in-between styling option (not to sound like a women’s magazine from the early 2000’s…but something to go from day to night perhaps?) ballet flats are a great shoe to style with leather pants.
From Mary Jane-style silhouettes to more casual knit or woven designs, there are lots of options to choose from and the best part? Ballet flats are cute and comfortable.
Tips for styling leather pants
Can you wear leather shoes with leather pants?
I say 100% yes and this is one of my favorite looks especially during the winter. I’d try to match the leather if possible (like wearing black and black together) or look for fun ways to add contrast.
Should I choose a different shoe for day and night?
It depends! In general pairing leather pants with casual shoes like a sneaker or sandal will make the look feel more laid-back, while a heeled shoe like a boot or a pump will have a more dressy vibe.
Which shoes are best to pair with cropped leather pants?
You can play with proportions when it comes to a cropped hem depending on the look you want to go for. Try an ankle boot that layers slightly underneath the opening of the pant leg to cover up or opt for a ballet flat to reveal more ankle.
Can you wear tall boots with leather pants?
You can definitely find ways to pair tall boots with leather pants. One of my favorite ways to do this is with a bootcut style pant and a slim fitting tall boot. This is a great way to layer during those chilly winter days. You could even tuck a leather pant into a tall boot for a more daring look if the opening is wide enough.
