Newt the Dachshund Puppy With a Crooked Snoot Finally Found His Forever Home

Some dogs walk into a room and everyone notices them right away. Newt is one of those dogs, and his face tells you why in the very first second. This small black-and-tan dachshund has a muzzle that twists clearly to one side, with his nose off-center and his mouth uneven. It is the first thing you see, and it is also the reason his road home took longer than it should have.
Today, Newt has what he waited for: a permanent home, a family who loves him exactly as he is, and a life full of play, comfort, and ordinary happy days. His story is a reminder that the dogs who get overlooked are often the ones with the most love to give.
First Called Twister
Newt was not always called Newt. He was first called Twister, and he was only 11 weeks old when Melanie Price first saw a post about him from Dream-A-Dream Dachshunds in Pflugerville, Texas. The rescue had taken in his litter after a breeder situation, and from the start, his future depended on someone being willing to look past a different-looking face.
His crooked snoot, as it is understood, likely came from a broken jaw that was never treated, after an attack by another dog at his original home. That is a hard beginning for any puppy, and it left a mark you can still see. What it did not do was change his spirit.
Returned, Because the Other Dogs Did Not Accept Him
Before he found his forever home, Newt was adopted once before, and then returned. The reason matters, because it was not about Newt being difficult. The other dogs in that household did not accept him, and so he had to start over again.
For a rescue puppy, that kind of moment can feel like going back to the beginning. But Newt kept being Newt: loving, playful, and silly, ready to trust again even after things did not go his way.

A Secret Application, and a Third Home
The turning point came in the sweetest way. Melanie Price’s husband applied to adopt Newt without telling her at first. When the surprise came out, Newt had a new family, and Melanie became his third owner. This time, the home stuck.
There is something fitting about that. Newt had been overlooked before, and then, all at once, he was chosen on purpose. Not despite his twisted muzzle, but with it fully accepted as part of who he is.
Healthy, Active, and Just Himself
Newt is healthy and active, and he eats and drinks without difficulty, with help from a round, high-edged bowl. He has no breathing problem, and surgery, which would be cosmetic only, is not being considered. In other words, he does not need to be fixed to live a full, happy life.
His videos later went viral on TikTok, and it is easy to see why. People love watching a dog who is joyful, a little silly, and completely himself. Now he plays, he rests in warm spots around the house, and he enjoys the simple routines that make a dog feel safe.
If his story stays with you, let it be for this reason: adoption is not about finding a flawless pet. It is about finding a companion, and sometimes the companion who needs you most is the one other people walked past.
Newt was first called Twister, he waited, he was returned, and then he was chosen. Now he is home, and home is exactly where he belongs.
