8 Best Hoboken Coffee Shops to Work From
Looking for the perfect laptop-friendly café in Hoboken to get some work done?
Whether you’re a remote worker, student, or freelancer, having a go-to spot with reliable WiFi, plenty of outlets, and a comfortable setup makes all the difference.
Luckily, Hoboken has plenty of cafes that check all the boxes—great coffee, a welcoming atmosphere, and the essentials like tables, bathrooms, and the all-important WiFi.
In this post, I’m sharing the best coffee shops in town where you can settle in with your laptop and stay productive.
So find a cozy spot, scan the menu to find your drink order, and let’s dive in!
Black Rail Coffee
Location: 800 Jackson Street
Tucked in the northwest corner of Hoboken, Black Rail is one of my favorite places to work from. Named for its proximity to the 9th street light rail, this is a great spot for uptown Hoboken residents or those coming up from Jersey City.
You can camp out here for a few hours since they serve breakfast bites and sandwiches for lunch. I also love that they have outdoor seating in the summer months. You can usually find a spot to perch at a bar stool or at the big table in the back even on a busy day. They make great iced coffee here as well and are super friendly.
- My order: a black coffee
- Worth noting: sometimes the music is a little loud in here, so I always bring my headphones
bwé kafe
Locations: 1401 Adams Street and 1002 Washington Street
They also have a Jersey City location in the Newport area
Bwé was one of the first spots I tried when we moved to Hoboken and it’s easy to see why it’s a beloved spot—it was started by a local Hoboken family. Bwé kafe means “drink coffee” in Haitian creole and they even sell their beans!
I’m a big fan of the Adams Street store because there’s plenty of seating and they also have a little gift shop too. It’s an open, bright and airy space. I’d suggest arriving early to find a spot by an outlet if needed.

- Worth noting: the Adams street location also has additional seating upstairs and outdoor seating when the weather is nice
Cafe Vista
Location: 527 Monroe Street
Cafe Vista also has a sister shop in Jersey City called Dream Vista
West side dwellers of Hoboken are probably already familiar with Cafe Vista, but it definitely deserves more recognition across Hoboken! This cute café has vintage-inspired decor and serves lattes in cute teacups with matching saucers.
They even have a loyalty card so after purchasing 10 coffees, you get one free. They serve tasty bites from scones and muffins to avocado toast topped with salmon if you’re feeling extra hungry. Get here early as there are only a handful of tables to sit at, but trust me that you will feel inspired and peaceful while you work here.

Choc-o-pain
Location: 1500 Hudson Street
They also have a location at 157 1st street downtown
I recently visited the Choc-o-Pain’s uptown location for the first time for a co-working session with a friend and we had such a lovely time here!
It was relatively quiet compared to some other spots in Hoboken that I work from in the afternoon. All of their baked goods also looked amazing.

- Worth noting: only a handful of tables to sit at near outlets, so charge your laptop beforehand
Gotan
Location: 770 Jackson Street
Repeat after me: when in doubt, we go to Gotan! Even since Gotan opened in Hoboken I’ve found myself working from here at least twice a month. It’s huge with two floors, clean and even on its busiest days I can still manage to find a table.
They even have some outdoor seating and in addition to having your classic drink lineup of lattes and coffees they also have a full food menu. The only thing to note is this is the one place where occasionally I’ve struggled with the WiFi connection in there (try to sit as close to the center of the store as you can), however this is my favorite spot to do tasks like video editing or writing that aren’t internet-dependent.
- My order: I rotate between iced coffee, chai lattes and matcha lattes every time I’m here
- Worth noting: almost always has available tables, sometimes the WiFi is slow though
The Hive
Location: 1000 Park Ave
The Hive also has a Jersey City location
What’s not to love about this spot? Founded by two local moms, Kristin and Catherine, it’s hard to picture Hoboken without The Hive. I’m constantly seeing familiar faces here, running in to the shop to grab a last minute birthday card, or refreshing my Instagram feed to see what new limited edition cinnamon roll flavor they’ll be dropping each month.
One important thing to mention about The Hive is that it is a kid-friendly shop and they even have a dedicated play space for the kiddos. For this reason, I always bring my noise cancelling headphones and will usually aim to visit in the late mornings or early afternoons and grab a spot by the front door furthest from the play area. Did I mention they have cute merch too??
- My order: any of the chai varieties I am seriously addicted to the chai flavor they use—regular iced chai latte in the spring/summer and either cozy chai or gingerbread chai around the holiday season
- Worth noting: The Hive gets busy after school and during cinnamon roll drops on weekends
Julietta
Location: 423 Washington Street
I’ve only worked here once so far, but this new neighborhood spot quickly made my list of best places to work from. I met my friend Lauren here the other day in the morning for a co-working session and it was so nice! There are some small tables great for solo workers as well as two window booth areas.
Don’t be fooled thinking Julietta is just a gelato shop—it’s an all-day cafe serving coffee, sandwiches and pastries too, with WiFi and a bathroom. I’d recommend an afternoon work session though because I almost ordered a gelato at 10:30am. It’s a great spot right in the heart of Hoboken that may not be as crowded as some of the other cafés while it’s the new kid on the block.

- Worth noting: the sandwiches at lunchtime looked amazing as well, I must come back and try one
Mojo Coffee Company
Locations: 801 Bloomfield Street and 230 Willow Ave
Mojo also has a Jersey City location
Another phenomenal female-owned coffee shop in Hoboken (and JC!) is Mojo Coffee. Mojo first came to the neighborhood in 2020 and they’ve since opened their uptown location on Bloomfield which is usually my preferred location for working since there are tables in the front of a shop, an annex in the back and outdoor seating when it’s nice out.
Mojo also hosts events and has collaborated with other local businesses too, which helps build that community vibe and feeling. Plus the neon Rise & Grind sign in the background means that you won’t be able to resist taking a photo with your coffee in hand.
- My order: iced chai latte (although I’m constantly tempted by the funfetti one)
- Worth noting: Mojo often does events so check their social media accounts ahead of your visit if a denim recycling drive or a flower making table might distract you
Thoughts on other local cafes:
In addition to the seven spots mentioned here, I also think Jefferson Coffee on Washington and Hey Coffee People on Garden could be good coffee shops to work from as well, but I haven’t personally tested either of them out with my laptop yet.
Empire Coffee and Hidden Grounds have limited outdoor seating, but they wouldn’t be my top suggestions if you’re looking to get some serious work done.
I would not recommend attempting to work at Modcup Coffee or Calexico since they don’t have any indoor or outdoor tables, but definitely stop by if you need a coffee to go.
