Queen Letizia of Spain Falls on Boat During Royal Engagement

Queen Letizia of Spain had quite the fall during a royal engagement in Llanes, Spain, on Saturday, Oct. 24, when she slipped while walking on a boat during the 2026 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award. The 54-year-old queen was with her husband, King Felipe, and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, for the presentation.

Videos captured by Hola! showed Letizia slipping and falling on the deck of the small vessel. Multiple people were seen stepping forward to help her up after she hit the deck, and the outlet reported that Sofía, 19, helped her mother up after the fall. Another clip showed her stumbling while posing for a photo.

The article notes, in a separate short sentence, that sea conditions were rough the day before, without spelling out a direct link between those conditions and the fall itself. PEOPLE said it reached out to representatives for Queen Letizia for comment on Sunday, Oct. 25, but did not immediately hear back, and the article reports no injury, medical treatment or cancellation.

Letizia and her family presented the award to the Santa Ana Fishermen’s Guild of Llanes. The honor, awarded by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, recognizes a town, village, population center, scenic area, or group of people in the Principality of Asturias that has stood out notably for defending or conserving its natural or environmental setting, its historical, cultural or artistic heritage, economic initiatives, communal works, or other outstanding displays of solidarity.

For the Llanes engagement, Letizia dressed down in a tan sweater, a white buttoned shirt, dark jeans and brown boots. King Felipe, 58, wore a pink buttoned shirt, olive pants, a gray blazer and tan dress shoes. Leonor, 20, wore an all-black ensemble, while Sofía wore a blue sweater and dark jeans.

The day before, the family had attended the 2026 Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony in Oviedo, Spain. Felipe and Letizia matched in black formal outfits, Sofía wore a navy blue dress with a matching cape, and Leonor wore a red dress, and they posed with Queen Sofía, 87, during a photo call.

It was not the couple’s first high-profile outing of the year. In July, Felipe and Letizia cheered on their national team at the 2026 World Cup final, attending the championship game against Argentina in East Rutherford, N.J., on July 19, watching from a box alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and at one point shaking hands with President Donald Trump, who was also in attendance.
