iS Clinical Injected Deep-Sea Longevity into Its New Eye Gel

As summer gets closer, my skincare thinking always shifts in the same direction: fewer steps, lighter textures, and products that do more with less. That is exactly the space iS Clinical’s newest launch is aiming for. The GeneXC Firming Eye Gel is the latest addition to a line built on pairing visible signs of aging with serious, forward-looking research — and Byrdie editor Ali Webb spent the past few weeks trying it, including during a facial in the Bahamas with esthetician Soo-Young Kim Abrams, founder of SYK Skin and an iS Clinical pro partner. Below is her full rundown: what sits inside the formula, how to apply it, who it suits best, and her honest verdict, with expert insight from Dr. Charlene DeHaven along the way.

Meet the Expert: Charlene DeHaven, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician and the clinical director of iS Clinical.

The Formula

The idea behind this formula starts a long way from the bathroom shelf — in the deep sea. iS Clinical looked to organisms known for remarkable longevity and built the gel around what keeps them going. The Hydra, for example, is said to live for more than 1,000 years, with its longevity linked to stem-cell regeneration. The red sea urchin is associated with longer telomeres and delayed aging, while the glass sponge is linked to delayed aging and increased resistance to stress.

Alongside that inspiration, the formula uses Extremozymes — enzymes drawn from extremophiles, organisms that live in extreme conditions. According to the brand’s framing, these enzymes protect and support skin cells, push back against aging, guard against environmental damage, help skin cells repair themselves, promote cell longevity, and protect collagen.

What does it actually target? Fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles. Dr. DeHaven describes the ingredient profile as quite powerful, with strong antioxidant properties, and she recommends the product.

Here are the eight highlighted ingredients, and what each one is doing in the gel:

  • Extremozymes: Enzymes from organisms that live in extreme environments, which help shield skin from environmental stressors.
  • Shea Butter: A deeply hydrating emollient that nourishes the skin and supports a healthy barrier.
  • Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate): A powerful antioxidant that helps defend against free radicals while also supporting skin repair.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate: The salt form of hyaluronic acid, which draws in moisture and helps soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate: A stable form of vitamin C that brightens, supports collagen, and evens out skin tone.
  • Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: A peptide that helps soften the appearance of wrinkles, including crow’s feet.
  • Hydrolyzed Elastin: An ingredient that helps improve the skin’s elasticity and firmness.
  • Panthenol: Also known as vitamin B5, it helps skin hold on to moisture and calms irritation.

The Application Process

Using it is simple, and the applicator is half the experience. Apply the gel twice a day, morning and night — or as directed by a physician — using one click per application. Smooth it over the upper eyelids, the brow bone, the lower eyelids, and crow’s feet, then let it absorb before makeup or the rest of your skincare goes on.

Dr. DeHaven’s guidance is straightforward: it can be used daily, morning and/or night, and most people use it twice a day. The cooling metal applicator glides gently over the skin and gives an immediate smoothing, calming, relaxing effect as you apply it.

One thing to keep in mind is consistency. The advice in the article is to expect visible improvement in about six weeks when the gel is used regularly.

Who Is It Best For?

According to Dr. DeHaven, this gel is for anyone who wants to slow the visible signs of aging around the eyes, and for anyone looking to improve smoothness and firmness in that area.

It is also described as suitable for sensitive skin and for thin, undernourished skin — as well as for anyone dealing with dry skin, fine lines, dullness, or a loss of firmness and elasticity.

My Review

This section is Ali Webb’s own account of trying the gel.

Webb first tried the GeneXC Firming Eye Gel during her facial in the Bahamas with Soo-Young Kim Abrams. What impressed her right away was the cooling, tightening sensation — and skin that instantly looked plumped and more radiant.

She was just as taken with the texture and the scent. The fragrance reminded her of a fresh ocean breeze, and the lightweight, silky gel sank in quickly without ever feeling greasy.

Her biggest win, though, was firmness. Webb says her skin felt firmer not only right after applying the gel, but throughout the day — and she noticed fine lines looking plumped and softened. She had already used the GeneXC Serum before and loved it, so she was a fan of the line’s distinctive scent going in.

Overall, Webb found that the formula makes a real difference and stands out from other eye creams. She plans to keep reaching for it whenever she wants an instant firming effect, and she would recommend it to anyone after that same feeling — or to anyone looking for a more powerful, nourishing and refining option for the under-eye area. What she likes most is that it is rooted in the naturally occurring longevity of other organisms: a reminder, in her words, of what is still left to discover in the deep sea, and of what forward-thinking research and innovation can do.
