Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 1 Ending: Mystery Finally Solved

Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 1 Ending: Mystery Finally Solved

Fans of Dragon Ball DAIMA were left shocked and confused after Episode 1’s strange cliffhanger ending. Many wondered what really happened to Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, and the rest of the Z Fighters.

Now, thanks to the Japanese Blu-ray box set, we finally have answers. The set includes commentary from producer Akio Iyoku and co-directors Aya Komaki and Yoshitaka Yashima. A fan translation of this commentary is online, giving fans rare behind-the-scenes insight.

Why Was Episode 1’s Ending So Confusing?

According to the creators, the ending of Episode 1 was made confusing on purpose. Akira Toriyama, the legendary Dragon Ball creator, gave the team very detailed notes on each episode. These even included character dialogue and story flow.

However, the directors still had to decide how to bring Toriyama’s vision to life. Episode 1 was supposed to show Shenron granting Gomah’s wish to turn the Z Fighters into children. But instead of showing the transformation directly, they ended with a cryptic scene full of suspense.

Shenron’s Wish and the Vortex Scene

Episode 1, titled “Conspiracy”, ends with Gomah asking Shenron to transform the Z Fighters into first-grade-aged kids. Immediately after the wish, the cast is pulled into a mysterious vortex.

Bulma dramatically drops her glass of wine, and then the credits roll while the group screams in fear. But fans never actually see them turn into children.

This deliberate choice left many viewers wondering if they had missed something important.

Staff Confirm: Confusion Was the Goal

According to co-director Aya Komaki, the ending was intentionally left open-ended. The creators wanted to surprise fans and build hype for the next episode.

By showing the vortex and screams instead of the actual transformation, the scene felt more mysterious and shocking. Fans were supposed to feel curious, even uneasy.

In other words, the confusion was part of the storytelling strategy.

What the Blu-ray Commentary Reveals

The Dragon Ball DAIMA Blu-ray commentary has revealed much more than Episode 1’s secret. It highlights how Akira Toriyama had a bigger role in DAIMA compared to other Dragon Ball projects.

Toriyama personally guided the directors, provided detailed notes, and made sure the story matched his vision. The Blu-ray also includes behind-the-scenes details and new Dragon Ball lore, making it essential for hardcore fans.

Sadly, there’s still no English release date for the Blu-ray.

Where Can Fans Watch Dragon Ball DAIMA?

Until the Blu-ray releases outside Japan, fans can watch Dragon Ball DAIMA in full on Crunchyroll. The anime is available in both English and Japanese.

For now, the Blu-ray commentary offers the best look into how Episode 1 was crafted — and why fans were meant to feel confused. Also enjoy Dragon Ball facts on DBS GUY Facebook.
